Howell James
Corporate Affairs Director
Barclays
London, England
The former government chief press officer is one of the UK’s most experienced public affairs practitioners, having served as political secretary to Prime Minister John Major and worked as a special adviser at Downing Street under Margaret Thatcher. But Howell James also brings considerable private sector nous, after founding PR firm Brown Lloyd James and overseeing corporate affairs at Cable & Wireless. In addition, James headed corporate affairs at the BBC, after starting his professional life as a adman, before working as a journalist at Capital Radio and TVam. James joined Barclays in 2008 to oversee its PR function, including media and government relations, corporate communications and global community initiatives.
